Sandy Spring Museum accepts proposals from individuals or groups to serve as Guest Artists.
Guest Artists can create a new body of work or exhibit existing work but preference is given to work that relates to the history or contemporary life of the Sandy Spring community.
Artists from diverse multidisciplinary fields are encouraged to apply. This includes visual artists, painters, musicians, composers, writers, dancers, photographers, filmmakers, playwrights, and multimedia artists.
Exhibit Your Artwork
Sandy Spring Museum offers spacious galleries for artists to exhibit a broad and diverse array of work to promote public interest and participation in the arts. While we accept unsolicited proposals, we favor proposals that incorporate community participation or a focus on some aspect of the local community, either historic or contemporary.
The Dr. Bird Room is perfect for exhibiting large works, with a high open ceiling design that provides additional creative exhibition space and lots of natural lighting.
The Farquhar Memorial Gallery is a graceful passageway, with one entire wall full of floor to ceiling windows Its exposed brick wall and wood floors create a striking setting and atmosphere. Wall-mounted art and three-dimensional work can be exhibited in this space, while being sensitive not to impede the flow of traffic through the area.
Proposals can be submitted year-round but typically must be received six months in advance of your preferred dates. We strongly encourage artists who will be exhibiting at the museum to become museum members in order to support the exhibition programs. We accept and encourage unsolicited proposals for exhibitions. We also encourage exhibit proposals that are accompanied by a proposal for a public event, such as a lecture, workshop, or demonstration.
Host a Public Event
With ample space for performances, classes, and workshops, we encourage talented artists and craftspeople to share their skills at the museum with children and adults through lectures, workshops, classes, demonstrations, or live performances.
