Sherwood Academy as it appeared in 1903--the sunset of its Quaker years. The students stand before one of Sandy Spring's most nostalgic and durable buildings. Originally the Orthodox Quaker Meeting House, it served over the decades as Quaker school, public school, and community library. When demolition threatened in the 1970s, Ed Hinshaw, Headmaster of Friends School, directed its removal to the school, where it once again serves as a house of worship.
