Have you ever wondered what it was like to live before houses had electricity, running water, and modern appliances? Come explore early American life through a week of hands-on activities and traditional crafts: churn butter, bake bread in a brick oven, make toys, visit local historical sites, play games, watch a blacksmith at work, make ice cream... and more!

Greater Sandy Spring was a breadbasket for the "new" city of Washington, DC, and a hotbed of innovations in farming, politics, social justice, and education. Campers learn through memorable hands-on exercises to understand how communities grow, change, and sustain themselves. Campers will engage in unique learning opportunities amid our collection of 18th and 19th century artifacts of rural life.

They also are encouraged to imagine themselves as citizens in their own communities today.
Combining history with engaging activities, the SSM provides an individualized experience. Children will learn, explore, and play during this four day camp. Great for children who enjoy DIY projects and using their hands!
