What Is Sandy Spring Museum?

A museum shaped by the people and stories of this region, connecting neighbors, artists, culture bearers, and historians through shared experiences of regional cultural heritage.

We preserve more than objects. We make room for living traditions, difficult histories, creative work, and new relationships to take shape together.

A History of the Land

The seven acres that are now home to Sandy Spring Museum have a long and complicated history. The land has been shaped by Native American communities, colonial settlement, plantations and enslavement, farming, commerce, war, and generations of the Bentley family. Today, the property is entering another chapter.

Cultura Plenera performs at Puerto Rico in Maryland at Sandy Spring Museum.
