Backyard Habitats, Tips and Tricks for Attracting Birds and Insects

Sunday, May 20, 2018 at 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

$3 – $8

Did you ever wonder who eats ants?  This and many other questions will be answered by Betsy Taylor, Master Gardener and Naturalist. Betsy has worked for over 15 years with Montgomery County Parks and Brookside Nature Center. She will provide insights into easy ways to encourage friendly birds and insects to visit and live in your backyard by providing a welcoming environment. She will also explain steps to take to restore the natural balance in your backyard ecosystem. Everyone will make a bird feebird feeder.jpegder to put to use in your yard!

In addition, at this program we will have a seed swap.  Join in the Garden Club’s Annual Plant and Seed Swap by bringing one or more of your own selections to trade.  To help others, please label pots and seed packets with the plant name and seed collection date/growing year.

Please note:

#1  A glass bottle will be needed for making the bird feeder. The glass Perrier or Pellegrino 750 ml size will work the best. The bird feeder lid fits it, and the wire will be pre-cut for that size bottle. We will have extra bottles available for participants to use.

#2  Bring needle nose pliers if you have them, labeled with your name. We will have some available for use as well.

#3  Bring garden gloves to wear for comfort when working with wire.

#4  For the Garden Club Plant and Seed Swap, please label your plants with name – common or Latin and the conditions it likes.

This program is sponsored by the Sandy Spring Museum’s Garden Club.  Anyone is welcome to attend the event and membership to the Garden Club is also open to everyone!
