Balkan Circle Workshop with Orfeia Vocal Ensemble
Sunday, May 7 at 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm
A Balkan music singalong for all ages. Experience the soul-stirring sounds of traditional Balkan singing with Orfeia Vocal Ensemble. During this intergenerational workshop/concert, participants will learn beautiful melodies and rich harmonies of Balkan music; your afternoon will end with a performance with the ensemble. Instruction will also include information on the historical and cultural context of the songs. Experience these unique traditions by recreating the spirit of a Bulgarian village circle dance, where people come together in song, dance, and celebration.
Schedule:
3pm – Workshop with Orfeia Vocal Ensemble
4pm – Break
4:15pm – Orfeia performance
4:45pm – Joint performance with Orfeia and attendees
Orfeia Vocal Ensemble is one of the premiere Balkan vocal groups in the United States. Led by award-winning, master artist Tatiana Sarbinska, Orfeia has brought their music to prestigious venues across Bulgaria, including Bulgarian National Television and Bulgarian National Radio, and throughout the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions.
This is a free, family-friendly workshop. Everyone can participate, no matter your previous musical experience – beginners are welcome!
