Black History Month: Transcribe-a-thon

Monday, February 21, 2022 at 11:00 am 3:00 pm

A 19th century hand written document. The writing is in script and takes the form of several long paragraphs.

Explore the history of Sandy Spring through transcription! For more than 300 years, the Sandy Spring area has been home to generations of African and African American families. In honor of Black History Month, we seek your help in uncovering some of these family stories awaiting discovery by transcribing historic documents.

The Sandy Spring Museum Archives comprises close to 10,000 individual items. To provide open, online access to this growing digital collection, the Museum is partnering with Digital Maryland, an initiative of The Maryland State Library Resource Center. Transcription holds the key to unlocking access to this vast content.

Attendees are not required to stay for the entire duration of the program.

This event can be counted towards Student Service Learning hours.

For accommodation requests, please contact the museum via email or at 301-774-0022.
