The Museum’s resident artists are members of Countryside Artisans of Maryland, a collaborative of about forty artists who open their studios three times a year.

Enjoy a trip through the countryside, starting in Sandy Spring, visiting talented artists who work in a wide range of materials in Montgomery, Howard and Frederick Counties.

Among the talented artists you will meet in Sandy Spring are Sue Garten, who fires glass on pure silver, copper, iron and steel – vitreous enamels.  She creates wall pieces, vessel forms, small sculptures and occasionally jewelry. Eun Ju Lee is a silversmith who creates sculptural jewelry and small wall-hangings. Loretta Kaneshige is a jewelry artist and teaches workshops in metalsmithing and jewelry making from her Catch a Dream Studio. Belinda Lee Russell is a practicing poet, painter and picture bookmaker. Her pen, brush and ink style is fluid and organic. Her work, essentially, is always a meditation on how the world reconciles with itself in ways both big and small. Patricia Kessler works in a variety of printmaking techniques and also textiles dyed with natural materials.

The artists that comprise Clay Works, the Museum’s resident pottery group, include Karen Blynn, Jean Fletcher, Pamela Reid, and Robin Ziek. Each creates ceramics through multiple techniques including using the potter’s wheel, slab rolling, and hand-building.  They experiment with glazing, stamping, and firing methods.
