From the never-ending legal and political battle over Obamacare to the mudslinging over Medicare for All, health care is dominating the national conversation. As a health care reporter in Washington, D.C. Alice Miranda Ollstein has covered some of the biggest moments — from Supreme Court arguments to late-night Capitol Hill votes to the 2016 and 2020 campaign trail debates — and navigated journalism’s financial and ethical minefields in an increasingly unstable time for the industry. With trust in the press at an all-time low, Alice believes strongly in the value of reporters sharing with the public how they gather and vet information, build relationships with sources and maintain their integrity (and sense of humor) along the way.
Alice Miranda Ollstein is a health care reporter for POLITICO, covering the Capitol Hill beat. Alice graduated from Oberlin College in 2010 and has been reporting in D.C. ever since, covering the Supreme Court, Congress and national elections for TV, radio, print, and online outlets. Her work has aired on Pacifica Radio, WAMU, and All Things Considered, and Democracy Now, and her writing has been published by The Atlantic, La Opinión, and Talking Points Memo. She was elected in 2016 as an at-large board member of the DC Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. In 2017, she was named one of the New Media Alliance’s “Rising Stars” under 30.
