Program and Reception to Launch Project of Local Historians
For many years, local avocational historians worked to prepare what they called “chapters” relating to the history of the Sandy Spring area. Before their deaths in 2015, Leonard Becraft and Rip Rice researched and wrote about people, places, and events that figure prominently in the history of the neighborhood, in collaboration with Delmas Wood. Several of these chapters are being compiled into a series of easily readable booklets on specific topics, combining photographs and drawings with excerpts from historical records, publications, and interviews of knowledgeable residents or descendants. The Museum plans to begin releasing what we hope will be a series of booklets prepared by these three and other local residents.
Join us for an evening of storytelling about the subjects of the first several booklets, including the Slade School, with family members Will and Clark Slade.
