Oral History Training

Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 9:30 am - 11:30 am

Learn how to conduct a meaningful oral history in this two-hour training session.

In conjunction with the Museum’s African American Community History research project, members of the community are being asked to interview elders in the historically black communities of Sandy Spring.  In this training, participants will learn the basics of interview skills, how to ask follow up questions, and what kind of technology is required for the interview (in most cases, a smartphone will work).

Everyone who is working on this research project will be asked to use the same basic questionnaire, which will be provided during the workshop.  This way, we will be able to collection consistent information.

Please note: The Museum will not be making assignments for interviews.  The training is for people who have someone in mind to interview, ideally someone with whom you have a personal relationship.
