Tell Us Your Story: A Creative Writing Workshop
Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at 10:00 am – 11:30 am

Tell Us Your Story is an interactive 5-class series occurring Tuesdays, July 5-August 2 that lets students discover their voices as writers and read-aloud storytellers. With prompts inspired by items in Sandy Spring Museum’s archive and collection, you will learn how to craft your unique story around different themes such as home, family, community, occupations, and favorite meals.
Author and writing instructor Laura Sturza will help students learn essential writing skills, including dialogue, building dramatic tension, character development, editing, reading aloud, and offering thoughtful, kind feedback to fellow students.
The final class will include a celebration with food and storytelling by participants who would like to read their work aloud. Students will also contribute to a magazine that features creative writing from the class, images to illustrate the stories, and a short biography of each writer. The magazine will be available digitally so that class members can easily share it with friends and family.
This class is designed for ages 55 and up. Whether you are new to writing or have published several books, all levels are welcome! Spots are limited, so please sign up early.
This activity is made possible by a grant provided by the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies in partnership with E.A. Michelson Philanthropy in addition to support from the Maryland State Arts Council.
Students are required to provide proof of vaccination, and masks will be worn during class. For accommodation requests, please contact the museum via email or at 301-774-0022
