|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 10:00 am, repeating until Saturday, March 24, 2018

Sikhs have been a vital part of America for over 125 years.  The Sikh project is a collection of stunning portraits that capture the beauty and diversity of the community and recognize the challenges and triumphs of what it means to be a Sikh in America.

This exhibit, with images by London photographers Amit and Haroop, focuses on the turban, which is an integral part of the Sikh identity.  The turban, as an article of faith in Sikhism, is a public declaration of sovereignty and equality.  Not only beautiful, the turban represents distinction, tolerance and justice.

Many of those depicted are residents of the Washington, D.C. metro area including a U.S. Army captain, a former American Idol contestant, and the Sikh Captain America.
