“It’s hard to say when the growing of succulents went from being a nerdy backwater of gardening to a viral sensation,” The Washington Post Gardening Columnist Adrian Higgins has remarked. Perhaps it is because they take care of themselves and take up so little space in a sunny window or maybe it’s their sculptural qualities and their adaptability.

Garden Club member and succulent enthusiast Anita Gilbert will share her knowledge and excitement about succulents. Her interest began when living in Botswana where the dry hot desert conditions were ideal for them. Now back in Maryland, she and her husband Anthony have found the same excitement in collecting and propagating succulents. There are many hardy varieties available in this area. Join us to explore the many worlds of succulents with examples of established plants and how to care for them through all four seasons. Propagation of succulents will also be demonstrated. A selection of succulent plants will be available for purchase. Cash or check will be accepted.
