Viernes de Plena (Plena Fridays) – Plena Music Jam Session and Monthly Lessons
Friday, July 14 at 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Plena is a music tradition from the island of Puerto Rico. Join us on the second Friday each month, from February through November, to learn and play plena with Los Hijo ‘e Plena, one of the premiere plena ensembles on the East Coast. This family-friendly program will consist of 45-minutes of percussion instruction, followed by an hour-long jam session where you play with seasoned plena practitioners. This program will transport you to the La Isla del Encanto (the Island of Enchantment) without leaving Maryland.
All ages and experience levels welcomed. Instruments will be provided to all attendees who need them. Instruction will be in Spanish and English, but no prior Spanish-language knowledge is necessary. Food (kebabs/pinchos) and Puerto Rican moonshine (pitorro) from Puerto Rico Distillery will be available for sale.
