Virtual – Evenings of Artistic Diversion with Artist Suzanne Herbert Forton

February 9, 2021

7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Per Session: $32 for members, $40 for non-members
Full series: $84 for members, $105 for non-members

With extra time on our hands, we all need some creative diversions.  Artist Suzanne Herbert Forton will lead this series of two-hour workshops that are sure to draw out your inner artist.  Each workshop, designed for at-home participation on Zoom, comes with a bag of supplies to be picked up at Sandy Spring Museum. Scissors and glue will not be provided. Suzanne will also show us how to incorporate knickknacks and recyclables from home into your artwork.

Suzanne is a professional artist (who also happens to work with costumes at the Hippodrome!) with many years of teaching experience with students ranging from young to not-so-young.  These classes are for ages 16 and older but parents are welcome to accompany their younger teens and preteens.  Sign up for one or all three Zoom classes.

2/9 Session 1: Recreational Repurposing
Everyone could use some more fun right now. Make your very own toy from a gorgeous drapery tassel that needs a new purpose.  Is it a hula dancer, the top of a wizard’s wand, a jester’s Marotte, or a shaman’s staff?  Using a grab bag of hand-selected goodies, who knows what wonderful plaything you will create?

2/16 Session 2:Mardi Gras Magic
The parades may be cancelled, but we can still celebrate some Mardi Gras fun! Guests will use recycled items from the WonderRoom to create Mardi Gras masks and beads. Laissez les bon temps rouler! (Let the good times roll!)

2/23 Session 3: Your Guiding Star
Stars are common symbols in many cultures and religions, from the divine to the sublime (like a 5-star restaurant).  Using felt, embroidery thread, and many sparkles, create your own personal guiding star.  If you need a lot of inspiration these days, you can make an entire galaxy!

Registration is required. You will receive a link to the virtual meeting with your registration confirmation email. You must be opted in to receive SSM emails to receive the confirmation.
