Wild Mushroom Tasting

The Mycology Association of Washington (MAW) returns to the museum for their semi-annual wild mushroom tasting! MAW will cook onsite at SSM, providing samplings of  locally-forged, edible, wild and exotic mushrooms. These tastings mainly feature “mycophagy,” or mushroom-based food, but can also include other forged wild foods depending on the season and availability. This is a delicious and educational way to introduce MAW members to the unique tastes of various wild and cultivated exotic mushrooms, and give them a chance to compare the results of different preparation and preservation techniques. All attendees must be members of MAW. Not a member? No problem, anyone is welcome to join and you can join on the spot.

*As an added bonus, members are invited to participate in MAW’s Morning Foray! In the week leading up to this event, they will hold forays to find wild edible mushrooms. Mushrooms found on the forays (or brought to the foray) can be certified for cooking by the identifier at a foray. There will be some interesting specimens that may be added for ad hoc cooking after the main tasting!
