Winter Tales: A Russian “Old Year” Celebration
Sunday, January 23, 2022 at 4:00 pm – 5:15 pm

Rescheduled to 1/23,2022 due to inclement weather!
Kalinka Dance Ensemble of Baltimore and Funklore Russian Costume Theater present Winter Tales: A Russian “Old Year” Celebration! Traditionally, Russians celebrated the New Year in mid-January each year. This is because, until the 20th century, many Russians used a different calendar (known as the Julian or Orthodox calendars) to mark the time. Today Russians use a standard (Gregorian) calendar, but still celebrate the “Old” New Year in mid-January.
Learn about this and other Russian winter holiday traditions, meet Father Frost and the Snow Maiden, play traditional Russian instruments, watch a folk puppet show, and immerse yourself in festive Russian singing and dancing. Recommended for ages 4 and older. The program is in English and Russian.
Mask wearing is required for ages 2 and older and proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required for those 12 and older for entry.
