Annual Family Holiday Party!

It’s only the 2nd of December and your kids are ready for the holidays! What to do? Make it a family tradition to kick off the holiday season at the museum!

Visit with Santa and his dancing elves from Studio of Ballet Arts, sing along to your favorite holiday tunes performed by Carolyn Reitman, enjoy mountains of cookies, and the hot cocoa bar – the festive fun is endless!

Admission is $10 per family for museum members who register online and $15 for non-members. Advanced ticket sales end on 12/1 at 11:59pm. All families are $15 at the door.

December 2018 Lantern 2Kids will get their creative juices flowing at our hands-on kids’ craft stations. Get gooey with the Lucky Clovers 4-H group and make your own slime! Or head over to the Girl Scouts’ station to build something beautiful. The WondeRoom will also be open! Participants of the WondeRoom activity will light up the world with beautiful lanterns, decorated with colorful paper, gems and lights, representing winter celebrations from across cultures.

Monster StuffiesNot all crafts will be make-and-take. This year, Small Things Matter is joining us to run an activity where children will make an item to donate through their Crafting for Charity program. This program empowers kids to use and share their talents to help others in need, whether it be with an encouraging word on a rock, a handmade stuffie, or a card with a hand drawn picture. These items are then donated to organizations such as The Children’s Inn at the NIH, Children’s National Medical Center, and Pediatrics at Shady Grove Hospital.
Kids' Only

The Kids’ Only Gift Shop is back by popular demand! The museum’s library transforms into a store, where only children are permitted to shop. Items are all priced at $5 and below, for shoppers to buy gifts for their loved ones. Do you have items you’d like to donate to sell in the Kids’ Only Gift Shop? Email us at

Shopping is not just limited to the children. Adults will enjoy perusing the one-of-a-kind items created by local artists that will be available for purchase through the museum’s Fine Arts and Crafts Holiday Gift Show (November 23 – December 30).
